Rep. Buescher Excellent Choice to Chair Joint Budget Committee
The JBC basically holds the purse strings for the Colorado General Assembly. They study the needs and costs of all state agencies and they make sure the state can afford what lawmakers propose. It’s a lot of interconnecting and intersecting numbers and JBC membership is a huge responsibility; chairing the JBC is an even greater one.
Rep. Bernie Buescher has proven he’s got what it takes:
- Buescher was key in drafting and passing Ref. C—giving the JBC some funds to work with.
- Buescher was instrumental not only in crafting this year’s budget, but also in negotiating with the governor’s office so the budget would actually get signed.
- Buescher helped engineer the state’s rainy-day fund.
- He’s standing up to the powerful nursing lobby to stop a bill that would provide a financial windfall to nursing homes with no benefit to patients.
Rep. Buescher’s got the right experience, expertise and attitude to lead the JBC. His leadership will keep Colorado solidly on the path of fiscal responsibility.
