Rep. Anne McGihon: Thoughts on Immigration
“Many of you may have seen the images this week of people protesting both for and against immigration reform. Recently, television and newspapers have been filled with articles about all sides of this complicated issue,” Rep. Anne McGihon of Denver writes in her most recent newsletter.
McGihon continues, “As a member of the General Assembly, I believe that immigration reform is primarily a federal issue, one that must be addressed in Washington, D.C. by Congress and the president. At the same time, I believe that Colorado has the responsibility to enforce fairly existing state laws that deal with immigration.
“We are a nation of immigrants. My own relatives only came to North America in the 20th Century. I struggle to understand how some argue that we need to close “our” borders, when in reality those borders belong to all those who struggle to find the elusive American Dream.” Read the newsletter in its entirety here.
