Tell Gov. Owens Voters Deserve to Know What Lobbyists are Doing
Lobbyists have a lot of power at the Capitol—they not only influence votes and help fund campaigns but they sometimes write legislation. We elect legislators to represent us in Denver, but lobbyists are elected by no one. They’re paid to represent their clients—whether or not what’s good for their clients is good for Coloradans.
Rep. Morgan Carroll of Aurora sponsored a lobbying reform bill that would require lobbyists at the Capitol to disclose:
- bill numbers they’re working on
- their clients’ position on the bill
- any direct business relationship between lobbyists and legislators
HB 1149 is a solid step in the right direction.
It passed both the House and the Senate and is on Governor Bill Owens’ desk right now. Please take a moment to email Gov. Owens and let him know you believe government is better when it’s clear who’s doing what to whom and who’s going to benefit. Ask him to sign HB 1149.
