Leadership and Compromise Take State in the Right Direction

A headline in today’s Rocky Mountain News proclaims, “Democrats, GOP both take credit for session” and the article goes on to say:

Leaders in both parties took credit for a string of bills designed to help economic development, including money for tourism and job creation, that has business leaders equally happy with the session.

Further south, at The Gazette, Kyle Henley writes:

Democrats and Republicans worked together to pass a statewide smoking ban, a large immigration-reform package, a $16.5 billion budget and a plan to fix the state’s ailing pension fund.”

It’s sounding pretty good for Coloradans. And let’s be clear: Democrats didn’t do this alone—it took compromise and leadership to get us on this solid footing. But if you want to see where we’d go without Democratic leadership, flip your history books back two pages and take a look at the financial train wreck of the Republican “leadership” years. Then get to work keeping this majority and this direction going.
