Rep. Andrew Romanoff: On Strengthening Our Schools
Until now, preschool has remained out of reach for more than 6,000 at-risk children in this state. This spring we adopted a plan that will fully fund the Colorado Preschool Program over the next three years. That means more children will be able to start first grade ready to learn, fewer will be forced to repeat grades, and fewer will drop out.
We also took steps to meet the demand for special education; to teach gifted and talented students; and to help school districts recruit, train, and retain top-notch principals. We recognize that the most effective schools have strong leaders—teachers and principals who inspire students, engage parents and make meaningful the words Washington can only mouth: to leave no child behind.
