Rep. McFadyen Insists on Prison Security
When you’ve got a prison that is (or will) house the likes of Ted Kaczynski, Moussaoui, Richard Reid, and Omar Abdel-Rahman, you probably want to make sure you dot every security “i” and cross every security “t”, wouldn’t you? Well, maybe not. From today’s Colorado Springs Gazette:
“The staffing level has been so severely reduced it’s just as dangerous as any coal mine in the country,” said Mike Schnobrich, a correctional officer and secretary/treasurer of the American Federation of Government Employees Council of Prison Locals 1302, which represents about 230 Supermax guards.
Rep. Buffie McFadyen joined the arbitration hearing on Thursday.
“When I understand the most maximum-secure federal institution is understaffed, it poses a threat not only to the workers in the facility and the inmates in the facility, but to the host community, which is Fremont County,” said Rep. Liane “Buffie” McFadyen, a Pueblo West Democrat whose district includes the Florence federal prison complex.
It’s good to have Buffie on the job.
