Dem Leadership Drives Immigration Debate Toward Policy, Not Politics
Today’s Denver Post reports that the state Democratic leadership is considering calling legislators back for a special session on immigration.
Whoever calls the session gets to set the rules determining what gets debated. Democratic leadership would like a special session called in the same spirit that drafted and passed Ref. C—with a focus on what’s best for the people of Colorado.
And our Governor, well, his veto pen suggests politics trumps policy during this election year.
One hitch, though, two thirds of the House and Senate have to agree to the need for the special session. So the Dems need some Republicans to agree that policy trumps politics. If you’ve got a Republican representing you in the House and/or Senate, send a quick email gently suggesting they support a special session called by their leadership in the General Assembly.
