Common Sense Not so Common During Immigration Debate
Let’s do a little compare and contrast here… Gov Owens (a Republican, in case you’ve forgotten) had years and years with Republican control of the State House and the State Senate. Did they pass sweeping immigration reform? Nope. Enter Democratic control of the House and Senate and what do you see? A practical, bipartisan package of legislation that does more to address illegal immigration than anything the Republicans crafted during their years in control.
Now the Governor’s all antsy for a special session. Democratic leadership puts out a call for a special session that, in the words of Speaker Romanoff, would “forge a bipartisan consensus in support of common-sense solutions, just as we did during the regular legislative session. We plan to build on the progress we made.”
Sounds like good policy without all the politics. No wonder the Gov left town.
