After reaching a six-year peak in 2003, the number of teen drivers killed on the road decreased by nearly one-third in 2004 and by another 50 percent in 2005.

The changes have led to an increase in the maturity of teen drivers, said state Rep. Debbie Benefield, D-Arvada, a sponsor of the 2006 legislation.
